MD/PhD student emeritus

Curriculum of Genetics and Molecular Biology

Clark Cunningham is a PhD student emeritus with the IDEEL research group. In 2021, Clark completed his PhD in the Curriculum in Genetics and Molecular Biology under the mentorship of Dr. Jonathan Juliano with a focus on developing novel CRISPR-based diagnostics to detect malarial sulfadoxine resistance in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. During his time with IDEEL, Clark’s research areas also included point-of-care molecular diagnostics, molecular mechanisms of artemisinin resistance, and COVID-19 seroprevalence. Clark is currently finishing the clinical portion of his MD-PhD training with anticipated graduation in Spring 2023, upon which he intends to match into a general surgery residency.
