Postdoctoral Fellow

Department of Epidemiology

Kevin is a Postdoc at the Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. He received his Ph.D. in 2021 from The Open University (UK) and the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme (Kenya). Under the supervision of Dr. Isabella Oyier, Prof. Philip Bejon and Dr. Colin Sutherland, Kevin’s doctoral thesis focussed on the genetic epidemiology of Plasmodium falciparum infections in Kenya. This work showed the utility of targeted deep-sequencing to characterise malaria infections in the field, notably to characterise complex infections with changing transmission intensities and in the surveillance of anti-malarial drug-resistance markers.

Soon after, Kevin joined IDEEL to assist with the advancement of targeted sequencing platforms. Additionally, Kevin will be working on the vast genomic P. falciparum and P. vivax datasets generated with partners from sub-Saharan Africa to inform malaria elimination efforts.
