Medical Student

Tyler Rapp is from Mount Holly, NC. He graduated from UNC Charlotte in 2019 with majors in Biology and Public Health. While there, he became interested in the interplay of social determinants of health and infectious diseases while working on a project examining the relationship between mosquito abundance and socioeconomic status in Charlotte, NC.

As a medical student here at UNC, Tyler works with Dr. Jessica Lin on her COVID-19 and malaria projects. Tyler was planning to travel to Tanzania to study geographic factors in relation to submicroscopic malaria but was hindered by the COVID-19 pandemic. He then worked on the malaria project remotely and shifted gears to COVID-19 here in NC. Tyler was involved in traveling to households to collect nasal swabs and subsequent data management and analysis. He continues to work on both projects with an interest in infectious diseases long-term.
