None has settled the controversy\, in no small part because of limitations of his medical record. In this presentation\, Dr. Mackowiak will review Mozart’s medical history with particular attention to what we know of the character of his final illness\, and offer what he believes is the disorder that most likely took him from us just prior to his 36th birthday. \n

SUMMARY:Medicine Grand Rounds\, Ron Falk "What Brings You Joy in Academic Medicine?"
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Falk\, chair of the department of medicine\, has now interviewed nearly every department faculty member\, asking three questions: \n1. What brings you joy when you come to work? \n2. What are the everyday hassles? \n3. What can the department do for you?  \nIn this first Grand Rounds lecture of the year\, Dr. Falk will reflect on this process and emphasize the need to be intentional about cultivating joy in academic medicine. He will also recognize the role that an institution must play\, providing the scaffolding to ensure that the practice environment is efficient\, the culture is nurturing and that all can continue to find meaning in their work. \n

SUMMARY:Medicine Grand Rounds\, Bharathi Zvara "Web-Based Tools to Address Complex Mental Health Problems"
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Bharathi Zvara is an assistant professor in the Department of Maternal and Child Health at the Gillings School of Global Public Health.  Her research examines the enduring impact of early experiences on social and emotional development across the lifespan. Guided by family systems and developmental psychopathology frameworks\, her work investigates the processes through which factors within the family system (e.g.\, mother-child relationships\, childhood trauma\, and maternal depression) influence the development of self-regulation\, emotions\, and behaviors in offspring. Her current applied research examines (1) how adversity broadly\, and childhood trauma in particular\, influences developmental pathways toward psychopathology and competence across multiple generations\, (2) how the quality of interactions between parents and young children impacts risk for poor self-regulation and childhood obesity\, particularly for children born preterm\, and\,  (3) how web-based programs may accelerate science to practice for adults with childhood trauma histories.
