Often recognized as a bridge year between residency and junior faculty roles, these appointed physicians lead and mentor residents, as they learn to recognize the needs of the department and hospital. After attending college and medical school at Duke University, she completed her residency at UNC. She is pursuing training in geriatric medicine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>WakeMed Chief: \u00a0Dr. James Rogers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/directory\/james-rogers\/\">Dr. Rogers<\/a> grew up in Waynesville, NC, a small western town near Asheville. He graduated from NC State University and attended medical school at UNC. He wants to pursue training in general internal medicine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Inpatient Chief: \u00a0Dr. David Lynch <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/directory\/david-lynch\/\">Dr. Lynch<\/a> is a native of Ireland, born and raised in the County of Limerick. He completed both his undergraduate degree in education and his medical degree at the University of Limerick. He hopes to pursue a career in oncology and build on his undergraduate degree by becoming involved in medical education.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Medicine-Pediatrics Chief:\u00a0 Dr. Alex Despotes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/directory\/alex-despotes\/\">Dr. Despotes<\/a>\u00a0was born and raised in Raleigh, NC. She attended Notre Dame for her undergraduate studies in Biology and Spanish, and returned home for medical school at UNC. Her career interests include pulmonary medicine, gastroenterology and hematology\/oncology.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Inpatient Chief: \u00a0Dr. Nick Maston<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/directory\/nick-maston\/\">Dr. Maston<\/a> was born in Portsmouth, NH, and grew up in Denver, CO. He graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder, and moved to New York to attend Weill Cornell Medical College.
