Roper, MD, MPH, CEO, UNC Health Care System and Dean, UNC School of Medicine.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/figure>\n<div>\n<p>In the latest \u201cBest Hospitals\u201d rankings from U.S. News &amp; World Report, UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill is nationally ranked or recognized as high performing in 10 clinical categories with its <i>Ear, Nose &amp; Throat<\/i> specialty ranked #10 in the United States. U.S. News released its<br \/>\n2018-19 report earlier today.<\/p>\n<p>National rankings for UNC Medical Center specialties include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ear, Nose &amp; Throat #10<\/li>\n<li>Gastroenterology &amp; GI Surgery #20<\/li>\n<li>Nephrology #26<\/li>\n<li>Cancer #36<\/li>\n<li>Gynecology #45<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>High performing adult specialties at UNC Medical Center include Diabetes &amp; Endocrinology, Geriatrics, Pulmonology, Rheumatology and Urology. Overall, UNC Medical Center is ranked as the third hospital in the state and second in the Raleigh-Durham metropolitan area.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. News released its pediatric rankings in June, and UNC Children\u2019s was <a href=\"http:\/\/news.unchealthcare.org\/news\/2018\/june\/unc-children2019s-named-to-u-s-news-201cbest-children2019s-hospitals201d-for-10th-straight-year\">nationally ranked in seven sub-specialties<\/a> in that report. Earlier this year, the UNC School of Medicine was ranked #23 for Research and <i>#1 in the nation for Primary Care<\/i> by in the \u201cBest Graduate Schools\u201d report from U.S. News.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. News Best Hospitals analysis reviews hospitals&#8217; performance in adult and pediatric clinical specialties, procedures and conditions. Scores are based on several factors, including survival, patient safety, nurse staffing and more. Hospitals are ranked nationally in specialties from cancer to urology and rated in common procedures and conditions, such as heart bypass surgery, hip and knee replacement and COPD.<\/p>\n<p>Across the state, several UNC Health Care facilities are recognized for clinical excellence. UNC REX Healthcare in Raleigh is rated \u201chigh performing\u201d in eight procedures and conditions including:<\/p>\n<div class=\"WordSection2\">\n<ul>\n<li>Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair<\/li>\n<li>Aortic Valve Surgery<\/li>\n<li>Heart Bypass Surgery<\/li>\n<li>Heart Failure<\/li>\n<li>Colon Cancer Surgery<\/li>\n<li>Hip Replacement<\/li>\n<li>Knee Replacement<\/li>\n<li>Lung Surgery<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>Johnston UNC Health Care in Smithfield is rated high performing in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Nash UNC Health Care in Rocky Mount is rated high performing in heart failure as is UNC Rockingham in Eden (formerly Morehead Memorial). High Point Regional is rated high performing in both COPD and Heart Failure.
