Roberts Distinguished Professor of Medicine and Pathology and director of the UNC Blood Research Center<\/a> published a study that identifies the intrinsic coagulation pathway as a potential target to prevent thrombotic and inflammatory complications after RBC transfusion. The article \u201cRed blood cell microvesicles activate the contact system, leading to factor IX activation via 2 independent pathways\u201d was published in the journal Blood. <\/a>Other authors include Rafal Pawlinski, PhD, Micah Mooberry, MD, and Dougald Monroe, PhD.
