Onyinye Iweala<\/strong><\/a>, MD, PhD, has received a $1-Million NIH Grant to study alpha-gal syndrome.<\/p>\n

Alpha-gal syndrome is an allergic condition with global reach. Global reports describe patients with delayed allergic reactions to mammalian meat and there is limited understanding of the mechanisms underlying this condition.<\/p>\n

Iweala’s research explores the role of glycolipids and unconventional T cells, with the goal of broadening the understanding of their roles in hypersensitivity disorders.\u00a0 In addition, her research may also link tick exposure to a gene expression and cytokine profile in unconventional T cells that promotes allergic responses.<\/p>\n
