We have every reason to be proud of our institution. Research continues to provide direct and indirect costs to the department of medicine.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Both clinical and bench research programs have been opening slowly, with strict regulations in place from the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/oor\/som-covid-19-research-opening-guidelines\/\">School of Medicine&#8217;s Office of Research<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The Department of Medicine now has an oversight committee to review inpatient COVID-19 clinical studies, thanks to Dr. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/directory\/anne-lachiewicz\/\">Ann Lacheiwicz<\/a><\/strong>, Dr. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/directory\/carrie-b-lee\/\">Carrie Lee<\/a><\/strong>, and <strong>Ashwini Roy-Chaudhury<\/strong>, our director of clinical research.<\/li>\n<li>Our faculty have contributed many hours toward reviewing COVID-19 grants and restarting human subjects protocols.<\/li>\n<li>We know that our scientists are anxious to get back to their (non-COVID) work. Dr. <strong>Ron Falk<\/strong> and I would like to assure researchers that we are committed to support of research time.<\/li>\n<li>Members of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/education\/physician-scientist\/\">Physician Scientist Training Program<\/a><\/strong> (PSTP) under Dr. <strong>Alex Duncan<\/strong> continue to meet regularly by Zoom, and we are welcoming two new scientists to the program: Dr. <strong>Jeff Jensen<\/strong> and Dr. <strong>Brooke Matson<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In addition, our K-grant writing group has moved along via Zoom, and is actively looking for faculty to participate.
