While health systems leaders believe they can handle surges in COVID-19 patients more effectively than they could in April, there is still concern that hospitals may reach their limits if trends continue, reports the News and Observer<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Myron Cohen<\/a><\/strong>, MD, the Yeargan-Bate Distinguished Professor of Medicine, Microbiology and Immunology, and Epidemiology, acknowledged the importance of people taking steps to protect themselves and others while in public, similar to how health care staff have adapted to treat patients.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think, unequivocally, the risk to health care workers has gone down as we\u2019ve learned the rules,\u201d he says in the article, expressing concern that the public hasn\u2019t taken the need to wear a mask more seriously.<\/p>\n

\u201cMasks, masks and more masks need to be emphasized.”\u00a0 He also says, “hand washing and social distancing play important roles.”<\/p>\n
