He returned to UNC to complete his fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology. He then completed his transplant hepatology fellowship at Vanderbilt University before returning to UNC as assistant professor.<\/p>\n<p>Shah received the William Heizer Award for Excellence in the Teaching of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in 2019. He also serves as the co-director for the UNC Academy of Educators Mentored Members, a program dedicated to promotion of medical education scholarship and mentorship of junior faculty. His passion for teaching extends to the medical school and physician assistant program where he continues to provide annual lectures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNeil is a terrific teacher and a dynamic clinician,&#8221; said <strong>Nicholas Shaheen<\/strong>, MD, chief of the division of gastroenterology and hepatology. &#8220;He will improve the quality of our fellowship teaching, especially with respect to liver diseases.\u00a0 We are excited to have him engaged with our fellowship program as APD.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Millie Long<\/strong>, MD, director of the fellowship program and vice chief for education said: \u201cNeil will play an important role in enhancing our hepatology curriculum in the fellowship. He will also serve as a mentor for fellows on our clinical educator track.
