Andrew Moon, MD, MPH<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Researchers at Oxford and UNC-Chapel Hill, led by Andrew Moon<\/strong><\/a>, MD, MPH, and Sidney Barritt<\/strong><\/a>, MD, found increased mortality rates among COVID-19 patients with advanced cirrhosis and alcohol-related liver disease.<\/p>\n

The study, published in the\u00a0Journal of Hepatology<\/a><\/strong>, found that mortality from COVID-19 was particularly high among patients with more advanced cirrhosis \u2013 called Childs-Pugh B or C cirrhosis \u2013 and those with alcohol-related liver disease.<\/p>\n

The study was a collaboration between scientists at the Oxford Liver Unit, based at Oxford\u2019s John Radcliffe Hospital, and colleagues at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine led by Andrew Moon, MD, and Sidney Barritt, MD, of the UNC Department of Medicine. The study was supported by the European Association for the Study of the Liver.<\/p>\n
