The 6-story, 150,000 sq. ft. building will house 13 outpatient clinics, a clinical research unit, radiology, diagnostic imaging, lab, retail pharmacy, and food services in an overall design that maximizes natural lighting. A seven-level parking deck with 1,100 spaces is adjacent to the building, conveniently located near the 15-501\/I-40 intersection.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/945\/2020\/10\/eastown-overview.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-47451 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/945\/2020\/10\/eastown-overview-1024x335.png\" alt=\"eastowne\" width=\"1024\" height=\"335\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/945\/2020\/10\/eastown-overview-1024x335.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/945\/2020\/10\/eastown-overview-300x98.png 300w, https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/945\/2020\/10\/eastown-overview-768x251.png 768w, https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/945\/2020\/10\/eastown-overview-600x196.png 600w, https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/945\/2020\/10\/eastown-overview-301x98.png 301w, https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/945\/2020\/10\/eastown-overview.png 1030w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Planned Services<\/h4>\n<p>In addition to clinics listed below, the co-location of many medical specialties will allow for the expansion of multi-specialty clinics. Through the same day clinic, primary and specialty care providers will be able to ensure availability of time-sensitive and high-acuity visits aimed to help transition patients from inpatient services, ultimately reducing emergency department visits and short hospital stays. Patients enrolled in clinical trials will be able to complete required research visits at the same location, often coordinated with a routine or urgent appointment with their provider.<\/p>\n<h5>Clinics<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Allergy<\/li>\n<li>Benign Hematology<\/li>\n<li>Cardiology<\/li>\n<li>Diuresis<\/li>\n<li>Endocrinology<\/li>\n<li>Same Day Clinic<\/li>\n<li>Gastroenterology<\/li>\n<li>Geriatrics Internal Medicine<\/li>\n<li>Infectious Diseases<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Ancillary Services<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Radiology \u2013 MRI, CT, Ultrasound, Bone Density, and X-ray Imaging \u2013 Echo, PVL, EKG<\/li>\n<li>Lab Services<\/li>\n<li>Clinical Pharmacy with a cleanroom and IDS dispensing Retail Pharmacy<\/li>\n<li>Eastowne Market Caf\u00e9<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Clinical Trials<\/h5>\n<p>One of the many reasons patients come to UNC is to participate in clinical research opportunities, and Eastowne will promote seamless integration of clinical research protocols as appropriate. Although consenting and brief research may occur directly in clinical pods or ancillary consult rooms, dedicated visits will occur in the clinical research unit. Clinical research that is currently performed in the endocrine and pulmonary research space at Meadowmont will relocate to Eastowne. Additionally, other medicine disciplines will conduct research visits in the Eastowne space as well.<\/p>\n<h5>Virtual Care<\/h5>\n<p>Each floor at Eastowne will be equipped with telemedicine booths fully outfitted to accommodate virtual care visits. The onset of COVID-19 has shown that providers and staff must be able to move seamlessly between in-person and virtual visits. Each exam room at Eastowne will also be virtual care capable.<\/p>\n<h5>Covid-19<\/h5>\n<p>The pandemic has impacted all clinical operations. Leadership is working closely with infection prevention to explore the feasibility of outdoor eating areas, expanded waiting rooms, and workflow redesign in the pods and ancillary spaces.
