The new funding will support HIV treatment and prevention in adults, children and pregnant women at four research sites \u2014 Lilongwe, Malawi; Chapel Hill and Greensboro, North Carolina; and Hanoi, Vietnam.<\/p>\n<p>The NIH has continuously funded the Institute\u2019s HIV research unit since 1987, making it one of the most experienced and successful CTUs in the NIH portfolio. Leading the work from the UNC Department of Medicine&#8217;s division of infectious diseases are three co-principal investigators\u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/directory\/joseph-eron-md\/\">Joseph Eron<\/a>, MD, chief of the division; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/directory\/mina-hosseinipour-md\/\">Mina Hosseinipour<\/a>, MD, MPH, professor of medicine and scientific director of UNC Project Malawi; and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/directory\/david-wohl-md\/\">David Wohl<\/a>, MD, professor of medicine and site leader of Chapel Hill\u2019s CTU.<\/p>\n<p>Additional site leaders are Lameck Chinula, MD, Malawi site leader;\u00a0 Cornelius van Dam, MD, Greensboro site leader; and Vivian Go, PhD, Vietnam site leader.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis new award is exciting and well deserved,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/directory\/myron-cohen-md\/\">Myron Cohen<\/a>, MD, director of the Institute. \u201cIt recognizes Dr. Eron\u2019s remarkable leadership and ability to build a great team, from North Carolina to Africa and Vietnam.
