The study was co-led by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/directory\/lisa-hightow-weidman-md\/\">Lisa Hightow-Weidman<\/a>, MD, MPH,\u00a0 professor of medicine in the division of infectious diseases, and Kate Meussig, PhD, at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health.<\/p>\n<p>Gaming features \u2013 like those used to drive airline loyalty and track daily steps \u2014 helped young men living with HIV achieve viral suppression and doubled their chances for reaching near perfect adherence to medication plans, according to a study in <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/33740213\/\">AIDS and Behavior<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Gamification can inspire changes in behavior when a doctor\u2019s advice or a patient\u2019s good intentions are not enough.
