This phenomenon is called HIV latency, and it\u2019s considered the main barrier to eradicating the virus that causes AIDS.<\/p>\n<p>UNC HIV Cure Center researcher <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/directory\/edward-p-browne-phd\/\">Ed Browne, PhD<\/a>, assistant professor in the division of infectious diseases, is the principal investigator of this $4-million, 5-year research project.
