An interesting concept but one that I hope at the end of this we can actually think about practicing. That we care about each other and we do it as a community. For we have now been in our department, in our school and health care system, through literally 18 months of this pandemic.&#8221; \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/directory\/ronald-falk\/\">Ronald J. Falk<\/a>, MD, the Nan and Hugh Cullman Eminent Professor, and chair of the Department of Medicine,\u00a0led the first Grand Rounds of the season, encouraging kindness and care for each other.\u00a0The September 9 lecture can be accessed <a href=\"https:\/\/uncch.hosted.panopto.com\/Panopto\/Pages\/Viewer.aspx?id=89e37284-0e03-41db-a371-ad9f00dfe352\">here<\/a>. Following are key takeaways.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cTogether as a community of caring people, &#8216;together we care,&#8217; we can take care of our patients, researchers, educators, under represented minority faculty. We can take care of our nurses, respiratory therapists, cooks, janitors, and pharmacists, extending the Carolina culture of collegiality to all of our teammates. (Credit: Image from Dr. Falk&#8217;s Lecture)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">We&#8217;ve got to listen to our colleagues and change.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Strict hierarchies do not work well.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Employees of all stripes&#8230;the next years will be the &#8220;Years of the Worker&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">It&#8217;s important to be a good listener.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cWhen you make rounds in the morning, a touch point with case managers, nurses and pharmacists, when was the last time you ask them how they are doing?
