Following is a list of observances.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>August 9: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/observances\/indigenous-day\">International Day of the World\u2019s Indigenous Peoples<\/a><\/strong> raises awareness of the needs of these population groups,\u00a0including their health needs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>August 13:<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Black Women\u2019s Equal Pay Day<\/strong>. The aim is to raise awareness about the wider-than-average pay gap between Black women and White men. Black women are paid 62 cents for every dollar paid to white men.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>August 15:<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Assumption of Blessed Virgin Mary<\/strong>, the day commemorates the bodily taking up of the Virgin Mary into heaven at the end of her earthly life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>August 19: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/observances\/humanitarian-day\">World Humanitarian Day<\/a> <\/strong>has the goal of growing global appreciation of humanitarian work.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>August 23: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/rememberslavery\/observance\/2022\">International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition<\/a> <\/strong>pays tribute to the millions of Africans who were torn from their homelands and communities.
