Funding: December 1 \u2013 December 31, 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Division of Hematology<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Nigel Mackman<\/strong>, PhD, FAHA,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/mackman-receives-r35-nhlb-seven-year-grant-to-study-mechanisms-in-thrombosis\/\" rel=\"noopener\">received an R35 grant\u00a0<\/a>from the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute of the NIH to fund the study \u201cTissue factor-dependent coagulation in thrombosis and immune responses.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Division of Infectious Diseases<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Jessica Lin<\/strong>, MD, MSCR, received an NIH National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases R21 grant for \u201cPlasmodium ovale hypnozoite development and relapse: a coordinated in vivo in vitro study.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>NIH Awards $25 Million to UNC\u2019s Global HIV Clinical Trials Unit.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/nih-awards-25-million-to-uncs-global-hiv-clinical-trials-unit\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Leading the work<\/a>\u00a0from the division of infectious diseases are three co-principal investigators\u2014Joe Eron, MD,\u00a0Mina Hosseinipour, MD, MPH, and\u00a0David Wohl, MD.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/nih-funds-study-aimed-at-improving-access-to-covid-19-testing-for-underserved-nc-communities\/\" rel=\"noopener\">NIH funded a study<\/a>\u00a0aimed at improving access to COVID-19 testing for underserved NC communities.\u00a0<strong>Michael Herce<\/strong>, MD, MPH, MSc, and\u00a0<strong>David Wohl<\/strong>, MD, are co-principal investigators.<\/li>\n<li>Myron Cohen, MD, received a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/nih-awards-seven-year-funding-to-hiv-prevention-trials-network-aids-clinical-trials-group-also-refunded-for-seven-year-study\/\" rel=\"noopener\">seven-year award<\/a>\u00a0from the National Institutes of Health for leadership of the HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN) in collaboration with FHI 360.The AIDS Clinical Trials Group, co-led by\u00a0Joe Eron, MD, is also receiving continuing NIAID funding.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lina Rosengren-Hovee<\/strong>, MD, MPH, received a 2020 Gilead Research Scholar Award for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/rosengren-hovee-receives-gilead-research-scholar-award\/\" rel=\"noopener\">a study that will yield insights<\/a>\u00a0into the social media ecosystem that affects uptake of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) among Young Black Men who have Sex with Men (YBMSM).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Division of Oncology<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The American Cancer Society and Pfizer have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/reeder-hayes-co-leads-grant-addressing-racial-disparities-in-breast-cancer\/\" rel=\"noopener\">funded a two-year study<\/a>, co-led by\u00a0<strong>Katherine Reeder-Hayes<\/strong>, MD, to address racial disparities in breast cancer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Jason Mock<\/strong>, MD, PhD, received an R01 grant from the NIH National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) to fund \u201cDefining the Role of Regulatory T Cells in Resolution of Acute Lung Injury.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Robert Hagan<\/strong>, MD, PhD, received an NHLBI grant to fund \u201cFunctions of TBK1 in Neutrophils During Bacterial Pneumonia.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Division of Hematology Nigel Mackman, PhD, FAHA,\u00a0received an R35 grant\u00a0from the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute of the NIH to fund the study \u201cTissue factor-dependent coagulation in thrombosis and immune responses.\u201d Division of Infectious Diseases Jessica Lin, MD, MSCR, received an NIH National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases R21 grant for \u201cPlasmodium ovale &hellip;
