In addition to collaborators from the Mbarara University of Science and Technology in Uganda, key investigators include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/news\/directory\/jonathan-juliano\/\">Jonathan Juliano<\/a>, MD, MSPH, also from IGHID; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/hospitalmedicine\/people\/raquel-reyes-md-mpa\/\">Raquel Reyes<\/a>, MD, MPA, Division of Hospital Medicine; <a href=\"https:\/\/sociology.unc.edu\/people-page\/elizabeth-frankenberg\/\">Elizabeth Frankenberg<\/a>, PhD, Department of Sociology; <a href=\"https:\/\/sph.unc.edu\/adv_profile\/sean-sylvia-phd\/\">Sean Sylvia<\/a>, PhD, Department of Health Policy and Management; <a href=\"https:\/\/sph.unc.edu\/adv_profile\/bonnie-shook-sa-drph\/\">Bonnie Shook-Sa<\/a>, DrPH, Department of Biostatistics; and, <a href=\"https:\/\/cals.ncsu.edu\/entomology-and-plant-pathology\/people\/mhreiski\/\">Michael Reiskind<\/a>, PhD, NC State Department of Entomology.<\/p>\n<p>Disease outbreaks and climate-related health emergencies have reportedly reached their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.afro.who.int\/news\/greater-horn-africas-climate-related-health-crisis-worsens-disease-outbreaks-surge\">highest levels<\/a> ever in the greater Horn of African, and this includes western Uganda where an increase in the frequency of extreme precipitation events, likely exacerbated by changes in land use, is believed to have resulted in seasonal surges of malaria transmission.
