For many of us there are certain teachers in our past who left a mark on our lives and are highly valued. For some they may be the reason you went into medicine or the specialty you are in. The DOM along with the AHEC sites have many highly regarded educators who are closely involved in teaching and mentoring our students. Thus, we want to feature some of our educators so that we can all get to know them better.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Drs. Koyal Jain and Ashley Henderson<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3 class=\"elementToProof\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-66953 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/945\/2024\/02\/amanda-allen.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"237\" height=\"296\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/945\/2024\/02\/amanda-allen.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/945\/2024\/02\/amanda-allen-240x300.jpeg 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 237px) 100vw, 237px\" \/>Tell us a little about how you got interested in education and your background?<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">I first became interested in education during my residency training at UNC and was fortunate enough to be able to serve as a chief resident, which helped me develop in the role as a student and resident educator.\u00a0 When I started as a hospitalist at UNC Rex in 2013 there were no medical student or resident rotations available within our group of Internal Medicine hospitalists. I partnered with another former UNC resident and chief, Dr. Krista Fajman Wuchter, to create an acting internship rotation for UNC medical students, which first started accepting students around 2017. We have expanded our rotation offerings and now host application phase students, individualization phase students and Internal Medicine residents. We are optimistic that we will be able to continue to expand rotation opportunities at UNC Rex to other specialties over the next few years.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>I enjoy medical education because of the enthusiasm and hunger for knowledge that I see in the learners that we host. Being able to participate in the development and growth of our future physicians is fulfilling and makes my workdays more enjoyable. \u00a0As a student and educator, I have always admired Drs. Deb Bynum and Christopher Klipstein, and hope that I can influence other students as they have me. \u00a0I&#8217;ve always appreciated their expansive knowledge base and their ability to share it with learners of all levels in a clear and concise manner.\u00a0 I have enjoyed maintaining a connection to UNC and the faculty there as we work to establish and grow our efforts in education at Rex.<\/div>\n<h3>Hobbies &amp; Activities<\/h3>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my 4 children and watching them participate in sports. Most evenings and weekends we can be found on a soccer field or basketball court. I also enjoy training for and running races with my co-workers from Rex. We are currently training for the 8-mile Uwharrie Mountain Trail run and completed the Tobacco Road Half Marathon last year.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I first became
