Bhaumik Breakthrough of the Year Award, <strong>John Buse, MD, PhD,<\/strong> was featured in an article <a href=\"https:\/\/www.science.org\/doi\/10.1126\/science.adq6452\" rel=\"noopener\">recognizing awardees<\/a> and their work with GLP-1 drugs for obesity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Peter Leone, MD,<\/strong> spoke about the rise of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/health\/archive\/2024\/06\/eye-syphilis\/678576\/\" rel=\"noopener\">extreme syphilis symptoms<\/a> with The Atlantic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shannon Carson, MD,<\/strong> explored the <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/38701817\/\" rel=\"noopener\">long-term outcomes <\/a>after treatment of delirium during critical illness with antipsychotics.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers from UNC Lineberger detailed the<a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/news\/2024-06-molecular-pathway-impacts-pancreatic-cancer.html\" rel=\"noopener\"> molecular pathway<\/a> that impacts cancer progression and treatment response.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/globalhealth.unc.edu\/2024\/06\/lyme-disease-continues-to-move-south-into-north-carolina-boyce-encourages-healthcare-providers-to-test-patients-who-present-with-typical-symptoms\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Lyme disease continues<\/a> to move south into North Carolina, Ross Boyce, MD, encourages providers test patients who present with typical symptoms.<\/p>\n<p><strong>C. Adrian Austin, MD, PhD,<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/doi.org\/10.1111\/jgs.19036\" rel=\"noopener\">explored ways <\/a>precision medicine can improve the care of older patients.<\/p>\n<p><strong>David Wohl, MD,<\/strong> spoke about <a href=\"https:\/\/abc11.com\/post\/covid-19-sees-uptick-during-summer-months-due\/14976135\/\" rel=\"noopener\">trends in COVID-19 <\/a>across the state during summer travel season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Klara Klein, MD, PhD,<\/strong> was co-investigator of a trial <a href=\"https:\/\/news.unchealthcare.org\/2024\/06\/clinical-trial-on-semaglutide-shows-promise-for-treatment-of-alcohol-use-disorder-warrants-further-trials\/\" rel=\"noopener\">showing semaglutide<\/a> may potentially treat alcohol use disorder.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Janice Hwang, MD, MHS,<\/strong> details the relationship between weight loss drugs, like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/article\/ozempic-quiets-food-noise-in-the-brain-but-how\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Ozempic, and the brain.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Millie Long, MD, MPH, \u00a0and Dr. Edward Barnes, MD, MPH, a<\/strong>re now certified by the International Bowel Ultrasound (IBUS) Group for intestinal ultrasound in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).<\/p>\n<p><strong>M. Bradley Drummond, MD, MHS,<\/strong> was highlighted in Healio for his research demonstrating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healio.com\/news\/pulmonology\/20240626\/more-lgbtq-individuals-report-have-increased-odds-for-copd\" rel=\"noopener\">COPD is more prevalent<\/a>and more likely to occur in
