Mildred Kwan, MD, PhD, associate professor of medicine in the Division of Rheumatology, Allergy & Immunology and Louise King, MD, assistant professor of medicine in the Division of General Medicine and Clinical Epidemiology, will each take over their division’s respective Eastowne clinic site as Medical Director.<\/em><\/p>\n

\n

Allergy and Immunology Clinic<\/b><\/h4>\n

Dr. Mildred Kwan will be stepping into the role of Medical Director for the Eastowne Allergy and Immunology Clinic, taking over from Scott Commins, MD, PhD, who has provided exceptional leadership. Dr. Commins, a William J. Yount Distinguished Professor of Medicine and Associate Chief for Allergy & Immunology, will continue to play a pivotal role in the department, maintaining his focus on advancing the field and mentoring the next generation of physicians.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s always been a team effort in the allergy clinic,” Dr. Commins said. “I’m proud of how we expanded care during the pandemic, increased our providers and care partners, and now are recipients of a UNC Health Carolina Care Excellence Award. It has been an enriching experience to work with the leadership at Eastowne, and the clinic is in great hands with Dr. Kwan.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Kwan brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of excellence to her new position. She was recognized with the 2019-20 UNC Health Care and UNC Faculty Physicians Award for Carolina Care Excellence, reflecting her commitment to patient care and clinical excellence.<\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, as a 2020-21 IHQI Improvement Scholar, she completed an impactful project aimed at reducing the unnecessary use of broad-spectrum antibiotics, showcasing her dedication to improving patient outcomes and promoting responsible medical practices.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>The allergy clinic is a great group of health care professionals who work well together,” Dr. Kwan said. “I hope that I can continue on this path making small improvements along the way. Our goal is to provide the best allergy and immunology care to our patients in a friendly and fun environment.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/h4>\n

General Medicine Clinic<\/b><\/h4>\n

In the Eastowne Internal Medicine Clinic, Dr. Louise King will be taking over as Medical Director from Christine Gladman, MD, MPH. Dr. Gladman has made significant contributions to the clinic since 2019, and her dedication to the role has sincerely been appreciated. These changes included restructuring the resident clinic, an integral part of the training program and an accomplishment Dr. Gladman values deeply as a former graduate of the program.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs Medical Director, I helped our providers, patients, and staff navigate through the COVID pandemic as well as our move to the Eastowne building,” Dr. Gladman said. “Throughout my time I was dedicated to incrementally trying to make changes and improvements in our clinical operations that fit how our division could best meet the needs of our patients and provide the highest quality of care.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. King, currently an assistant professor of Medicine, brings valuable experience to her new role. She has served as the Co-Director of the COVID Recovery Clinic, where she has worked tirelessly to address the complex needs of patients recovering from the virus.<\/span><\/p>\n

Her previous leadership of the Travel Clinic at the Internal Medicine Clinic has also equipped her with a diverse skill set that will benefit the General Medicine Clinic and its patients.<\/span><\/p>\n
