Weber, MD, MPH, a distinguished leader in infection prevention and healthcare epidemiology, and the Charles Addison and Elizabeth Ann Sanders Distinguished Professor of Medicine in the UNC Division of Infectious Diseases, will serve as the 2025 SHEA Board of Trustees President beginning January 1, 2025. Dr. Weber will succeed Dr. Tom Talbot, continuing SHEA\u2019s mission to promote safe healthcare practices and reduce the burden of healthcare-associated infections worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Weber brings an exceptional depth of knowledge and leadership experience to this role. He currently serves as the Associate Chief Medical Officer at UNC Medical Center and Medical Director for the medical center&#8217;s Department of Infection Prevention where he has led significant advancements in the science and prevention of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). With decades of experience in research, education, and clinical practice, Dr. Weber has been a steadfast advocate for evidence-based solutions to combat emerging infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is an honor to step into this leadership position at SHEA,\u201d said Dr. Weber. \u201cAs we face evolving challenges in infection prevention and public health, I look forward to collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders to advance SHEA\u2019s vision of safe healthcare for all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Weber\u2019s presidency will coincide with a pivotal time in infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship, as the field continues to address the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, prepare for future infectious disease outbreaks, and advance antimicrobial stewardship initiatives.
