{"id":68855,"date":"2025-03-25T11:09:25","date_gmt":"2025-03-25T15:09:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/?p=68855"},"modified":"2025-03-25T11:26:52","modified_gmt":"2025-03-25T15:26:52","slug":"cassiopeia-frank-appointed-director-of-quality-and-safety","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/news\/cassiopeia-frank-appointed-director-of-quality-and-safety\/","title":{"rendered":"Cassiopeia Frank Appointed Director of Quality and Safety"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/hematology\/people\/cassiopeia-frank-mmsc-pa-c\/\">Cassiopeia Frank, MMSc, PA-C, CPPS,<\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202fan Advanced Practice Provider in the Division of Hematology, has been named the new Director of Quality and Safety for the <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">University of North Carolina <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Department of Medicine. \u202fFrank brings extensive expertise in patient safety, quality improvement, and clinical practice innovation.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"bs-callout bs-callout-info\">\n<p><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cI am proud to say that UNC is a place I confidently send my friends and family members for care<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">,\u201d said Frank.<\/span><\/i> <i><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201c<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">I don\u2019t do that because of the walls around it or the machines inside it \u2013 I do it because of the people.<\/span><\/i> <i><span data-contrast=\"none\">The people who provide healthcare at this institution are kind, caring, and so very dedicated to the work we do.<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-68856 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/medicine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/945\/2025\/03\/1A4A9106-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"170\" height=\"253\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The Director of Quality and Safety is responsible for overseeing the interdisciplinary quality improvement, safety, service and value activities for the <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">department<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">. This includes supporting inpatient faculty service leaders and outpatient medical directors as they set and implement annual quality initiatives and engage in ongoing safety work. It is also a role that supports the work of Carolina Quality initiatives such as Just Culture, SAFE and <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">TeamSTEPPS<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are so fortunate to have Cassi Frank take on this critical role in supporting safety and quality work across the Department of Medicine<span data-contrast=\"none\">,\u201d<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202fCristin Colford, MD, FACP, the Executive Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine said<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">.<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Her clinical experiences have spanned the spectrum of care settings from inpatient malignant hematology, outpatient benign hematology and the rapid access DVT clinic and her unique expertise will help us deliver the highest quality and safest care to our patients.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Frank holds a Certificate in Quality, Patient Safety, and Outcomes Research from Johns Hopkins University\u2019s Bloomberg School of Public Health and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Quality and Patient Safety at the same institution.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201c<\/span><\/i>The providers here are not only highly skilled professionals, but they are also human,\u201d Frank said. \u201cIn the last several years, I have focused my graduate work in healthcare quality and patient safety, which operates on the foundation of the goodness, but also the fallibility, of humans.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I believe one of the best ways I can give back to both our patients and our clinical workforce is by strengthening the systems in which they work.\u202fMy hope is to enhance our ability to pursue innovative quality projects by advancing access to actionable data that contribute meaningful improvements to patient care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Frank\u2019s research focuses on clinician trust and AI integration in clinical practice, reflecting her commitment to advancing patient-centered care through innovative solutions. Her dedication to improving healthcare quality is further demonstrated by her completion of the Institute for Healthcare Quality Improvement (IHQI) Fellowship at UNC in 2024. Additionally, she is a Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) through the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, underscoring her expertise in implementing evidence-based strategies to enhance
