Abbie was born in Ethiopia and came to the United States where her family settled in Ohio.\u00a0 She attended The Ohio State University for college where she majored in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics.\u00a0 She was accepted in the MD\/PhD program at OSU and obtained her PhD in cancer biology.\u00a0 Her research work has primarily focused on the role of IL6 signaling through the glycoprotein 130 (GP130) receptor leading to elevated oncogene expression in dedifferentiated liposarcoma. She has also been actively involved in medical education focused research including a project examining the impact of race based medical misinformation education on medical student perception of racial healthcare disparities.\u00a0 Abbie is planning on pursuing fellowship training in Hematology\/Oncology via the ABIM research pathway. She has served in multiple volunteer and mentoring role and enjoys running, weightlifting, and long walks with her
