Jennifer is from Goldsboro, North Carolina, and studied biomedical engineering at the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering at UNC and NC State. She spent her gap year working as a CNA on the Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Duke University Hospital, where she developed a deep appreciation for patient-centered care in complex medical settings. Her earlier experiences working in nursing homes and providing testing and vaccinations to individuals experiencing homelessness during the pandemic further solidified her commitment to pursuing medicine and serving vulnerable populations. At UNC, Jennifer has continued to engage with underserved communities through her work with SHAC while also cultivating a strong interest in medical education. As part of the Medical Education Scholarly Concentration, she has been involved in curriculum development and mentorship, including co-founding a mentorship program for biomedical engineering pre-medical students. Drawn to internal medicine for its diagnostic breadth, intellectual rigor, and emphasis on longitudinal patient relationships, Jennifer is excited to pursue a career in the field.
