Kerry DorrDa-Zhi Wang

Nature PortfolioNature Cardiovascular ResearchCongratulations to Kerry Dorr, Ph.D., Research Associate, in the Conlon Lab, in a multi-institutional collaboration led by senior author, Da-Zhi Wang, Ph.D., Staff Scientist, Professor of Pediatrics, Harvard Medical School, University of South Florida/Boston Children’s Hospital, for publishing article, titled “PCBP1 regulates alternative splicing of AARS2 in congenital cardiomyopathy”, in Nature Cardiovascular Research.

Frank Conlon, Ph.D.The team discovered that the RNA-binding protein PCBP1 controls the splicing of AARS2, a gene linked to fatal infantile mitochondrial cardiomyopathy, and that loss of either gene in cardiomyocytes disrupts mitochondrial energy production, leading to non-compaction cardiomyopathy and heart failure in mouse models that recapitulate the human disease. The work was featured in the 20 April 2026 issue of Nature Cardiovascular Research and can be read online now.
