Congratulations to Ankunda Kariisa, a graduate student in Rita Tamayo’s lab, on being selected by the American Society for Microbiology as a recipient of the highly competitive Robert D. Watkins Graduate Research Fellowship! This award is given by the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) to predoctoral students they consider to be “the best and the brightest rising scientists.” The fellowship is a three-year award which provides stipend support as well as travel to ASM scientific and career development meetings. Ankunda is the second Watkins Fellowship awardee in our Department; Rodrigo Gonzalez (in Virginia Miller’s lab) was selected for the same award last year.
