Congratulations to Department students and faculty who were featured award recipients at the mid-June General Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology:

Melissa Anderson (Peggy Cotter’s lab) and Rodrigo Gonzalez (Virginia Miller’s lab) received graduate student awards. Mel presented her work in a session honoring Richard and Mary Finkelstein Student Travel Grant awardees. Rodrigo also received a travel grant, and in addition was honored at an awards reception for recipients of the Robert D. Watkins Graduate Research Fellowship.

Tony Richardson was honored at a special banquet highlighting all the major 2012 ASM awardees. Tony received the Merck Irving S. Sigal Memorial Award for “excellence in basic research in medical microbiology and infectious diseases.”

Joseph Pagano was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology (AAM), the honorific leadership group within the ASM. Joe joins seven other current M&I faculty members who are AAM Fellows: Ralph Baric, Jeff Dangl, Peter Gilligan, Bill Goldman, Virginia Miller, Nancy Raab-Traub, and Fred Sparling.
