Jason Whitmire, PhD (Professor, Department of Genetics, Department of Microbiology & Immunology), was awarded a Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program (PRMRP) Investigator-Initiated Research Award by the US Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity of the Department of Defense (DoD).

This four year award titled “Pathogenic T Cells in Guillain Barre Syndrome”, is a collaborative project with Co-Investigator Dr. Karl Shpargel (Assistant Professor, Department of Genetics) at UNC and a partner award to Dr. Maureen Su at the University of California, Los Angeles. The PRMRP Investigator-Initiated Research Award is intended to support research with the potential to yield highly impactful data that could lead to critical discoveries or major advancements toward research and/or patient care for a disease. Findings from this project will enable the development of new classes of epigenetic-based therapies for autoimmune diseases such as Guillain Barre Syndrome.
