This next academic year will be the initiation of the new Translational Education at Carolina (TEC) curriculum for medical students, a fundamental change from the standard coursework stucture that has been in place for many years. Immunology will taught in an individual course, while microbiology/infectious disease teaching will be woven throughout a series of organ-based courses over the first 18 months of medical education.

“Our teaching in old Block 4 (Host Defense and Microbial Pathogens) officially ended in April, and the course directors (Marcia Hobbs, Aravinda de Silva, and Gina Donato) invited Department members and all past course instructors to a “wake” in the Department’s new home in Marsico Hall.”
