As a master\u2019s student, he studied photosynthetic biochemistry under the direction of Dr. Cindy Putnam-Evans.  As a doctoral student, he joined the lab of Dr. William F. Marzluff, where he focused on the discovery and characterization of novel histone pre-messenger RNA (pre-mRNA) processing factors.
