M&I faculty member Mike Cohen (J. Herbert Bate Distinguished Professor of Medicine and Associate Vice Chancellor Global Health) is one of 70 new members elected to the Institute of Medicine (IOM). This is just the latest in a string of honors for Mike, who headed the clinical trial (NIAID HPTN 052) that was named by Science Magazine as the 2011 “Scientific Breakthrough of the Year.” New members to the IOM are elected by current active members through a selective process that recognizes individuals who have made major contributions to the advancement of the medical sciences, health care, and public health. The IOM was established in 1970 by the National Academy of Sciences and functions as both an honorific organization and an advisory organization. Click here for the article.
