Bruce Alexander is an integral aspect of the Microbiology teaching team. Bruce organizes, instructs and supervises the Medical School Microbiology Teaching Laboratory as well labs for Medical Microbiology (MCRO 251), and Introduction to Microbiology (MCRO 114) for the Dental School. In addition to running the labs, he is also responsible for coordinating and overseeing all graduate student teaching assistants (TAs) involved in each of these courses. Bruce is also the course coordinator for Host Defense and Microbial Pathogens (MEDI 143). In coordinating the Host Defense and Microbial Pathogens, Bruce is required to organize and coordinate 50 faculty members participating in lectures, case discussions and oversee practical laboratory exercises. Throughout all of these responsibilities, Bruce has always striven to move the department and faculty forward towards more innovative and effective methods of teaching. In July of 2010, Bruce received recognition by the Medical School with an award for his outstanding contributions to the MED program and he has just been awarded the 2011 Basic Science Excellence in Teaching Award. The Microbiology department again congratulates Bruce for all his hard work and dedication. Bruce credits his years as a high school science instructor for being able to juggle all of his responsibilities.
