On November 19, 2024, the Gene Therapy Center and Department of Pediatrics at UNC–Chapel Hill hosted the Jude Samulski Festschrift at the Carolina Club, followed by an evening reception at the Carolina Inn.

The symposium honored Dr. Samulski’s pioneering contributions to gene therapy, AAV vector development, and biotechnology, celebrating his transformative impact on the field and his role in establishing UNC as a global leader in gene therapy research.

Speakers included internationally recognized scientists such as Gloria Gonzalez-Aseguinolaza, Krzysztof Bankiewicz, Hildegard Büning, Nathalie Cartier, Terry Flotte, Guangping Gao, Roger Hajjar, Arnold Levine, William Marzluff, Douglas McCarty, Sheila Mikhail, Joseph Rabinowitz, Thomas Shenk, Weidong Xiao, and Samuel M. Young.

The day’s presentations and reflections underscored Dr. Samulski’s lasting influence on generations of researchers and the continuing evolution of gene therapy at Carolina.
