The Center for Molecular Medicine (CMM) was recently featured by the UNC Health and the UNC School of Medicine Newsroom for its growing role in expanding access to hands-on biomedical research and mentorship. CMM supports students from high school through undergraduate training through programs such as Amgen Scholars, Carolina Summer Fellowship, and WinSPIRE.

Students work alongside CMM investigators on cutting-edge research in adeno-associated virus (AAV) gene therapy, neurological disease, and rare genetic disorders, gaining real-world experience in top-tier laboratories. Under the leadership of Director Samuel M. Young, Jr., PhD, CMM emphasizes mentorship, inclusion, and opportunity as core drivers of scientific advancement.
