Medical Students and Shadowers

Medical Students

Medical Students

The Neurology Clerkship is a 4-week long rotation made up of both an experiential learning component and a didactic component for third year medical students. The experiential component is divided into 2 weeks on an inpatient service and 2 weeks in outpatient subspecialty clinics.  The didactic component is made up of a series of noon lectures, assigned readings, learning modules, and small group sessions. Please visit the Neurology Clerkship Website for more information.  Click here to visit the Neurology Clerkship Website

Shadowers

All Shadowers must be accredited with the Volunteer Office, including completion of the necessary OSHA and HIPPA training.  Click here to visit the Volunteer Offices page

Once you are a registered Hospital Volunteer, please make a shadowing request to the Medical Student/Clerkship Coordinator. Please let the Coordinator know of any specific areas of interest. The coordinator will monitor the number of students who are with a provider for a clinic, inpatient or outpatient session. We will do our best to accommodate requests; however we must balance requests with physician availability and medical student requirements.

Special requests can be directed at individual faculty. It is up to that faculty to notify the Clerkship Coordinator that they have additional learners or to request that the number of scheduled medical students/other learners be adjusted, if possible.

All Shadowers must wear appropriate attire. Men should wear shirt and tie; women should be comparably attired. Please arrive on time and display professional decorum.

Click here visit the Volunteer Services Shadow Visitors page to complete the next steps in the process.

Observership

The Department of Neurology does not offer a formal Observership Program for physicians trained outside the US.
All Medical Student requests are handled concurrently by the Department of Neurology Clerkship Director and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine Office of International Activities.  For more information please click here
