DESCRIPTION:UNC Neurology is pleased to host Dr. Christine Grady\, Former Chair Dept. of Bioethics\, Clinical Center\, NIH & Former co-chair Brain Neuroethics Working Group\, NIH. \nTitle of Talk: Ethical Conundrums in Neuroscience Research \nDr. Grady is a nurse-bioethicist and a senior investigator who currently serves as the Chief of the Department of Bioethics. \nDr. Grady has published widely in the biomedical and bioethics literature and authored or edited several books\, including The Oxford Textbook of Clinical Research Ethics. \nShe served from 2010-2017 as a Commissioner on the President’s Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues. Her work is known internationally\, and she has lectured widely on ethical issues in clinical research and clinical care\, HIV disease\, and nursing. She is an elected fellow of the Hastings Center and of the American Academy of Nursing\, a senior research fellow at the Kennedy Institute of Ethics and an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine\, and is the recipient of multiple awards. \nShe holds a BS in nursing and biology from Georgetown University\, a MSN. in community health nursing from Boston College\, and a PhD in philosophy from Georgetown University. \n\nThe School of Medicine of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.  The School of Medicine of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. SUMMARY:Carolina Neuromuscular Disease Summit 2025
DESCRIPTION:Neuromuscular disorders can have a profound impact on individuals and their loved ones\, but many people are unaware of the challenges faced by those affected. Moreover\, there are numerous opportunities to improve care for these patients. \nThis activity offers the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the complex issues surrounding neuromuscular disorders. It will feature clinical experts discussing the state-of-the-science regarding clinical care of patients with neuromuscular disorders. Disease impact and the illness burden experienced by patients will be reviewed. Faculty will discuss best practices for evaluation of patients with a suspected neuromuscular disorder and keys to diagnosis. Focus will placed on sharing best management practices\, including the rationale underpinning and supporting data for evidence-based practice.
