Lectures            <\/button>\n\n        <\/h4>\n\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"details-0-2\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse  oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n        <div class=\"panel-body oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n<p>Fellows will receive focused training in the application of diagnostic and treatment strategies for the neurologically critically ill, with rotations in the\u00a0<strong>22-bed Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU)<\/strong>, Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), and Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU). They will also have opportunities for elective rotations in areas such as Neuro-Interventional Radiology, Neurosurgery, and Stroke Neurology.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, fellows from diverse backgrounds will receive specialized training in\u00a0<strong>acute stroke management (ischemic and hemorrhagic), subarachnoid hemorrhage, traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, status epilepticus, autoimmune and infectious encephalitis, neuromuscular disorders, and post cardiac arrest prognostication<\/strong>.\u00a0 This includes specific training in the following diagnostic and procedural interventions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Electroencephalography (EEG) Interpretation<\/strong>: Training in reading and interpreting EEGs, including continuous EEG, quantitative EEG, and rapid EEG.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Coma and Brain Death evaluations<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Advanced neuroimaging<\/strong>: including computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, angiography, perfusion imaging, transcranial Doppler\u2019s and functional MRI.<\/li>\n<li><strong>General Critical Care Procedures<\/strong>: Skills in performing procedures such as lumbar punctures, intubations, bronchoscopy, advanced hemodynamic line placements, point of care ultrasound, thoracentesis and chest tubes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Interpretation and management of multimodal neuro monitoring<\/strong>: including intracranial pressure monitors, external ventricular drains, lumbar drains, and brain tissue oxygen monitors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Protected Fellow Education<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Structured Didactics<\/li>\n<li>Monthly Fellow&#8217;s journal club<\/li>\n<li>Monthly case conferences<\/li>\n<li>Biweekly fellow lectures<\/li>\n<li>Guest Lectures from UNC and Outside Institutions<\/li>\n<li>Mentorship program<\/li>\n<li>Annual SCCM MCCKAP examination<\/li>\n<li>Regional Journal club<\/li>\n<li>ICU &#8211; EEG weekly conference<\/li>\n<li>Critical Care Fellow Ultrasound Workshop<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/pstp\/\">Physician Scientist Training Program<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>The PSTP supports Physician-Scientists at two stages: the resident\/fellowship level and early-stage faculty level. For both stages, the program partners with the trainees\u2019 home departments and provide funding to support their research efforts.\u00a0<em><strong>In addition to receiving monetary support, trainees enter a career development program with peer-level physician scientists across multiple clinical disciplines.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Nominations of eligible applicants from UNC SOM clinical departments are requested annually in the spring for support to begin in July for the academic year. UNC neurocritical care fellows interested in careers in stroke research can apply for our additional one-year <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/neurology\/envision-research-fellowship\/\"><strong>StrokeNet Fellowship<\/strong><\/a>. The fellowship provides protected time for in-depth stroke research training, with a mentored project and participation in national training seminars.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/neurology\/divisions\/multiple-sclerosis\/global-neurology-program\/\">The UNC Global Neurology Program<\/a><\/strong> is dedicated to strengthening neurological health around the world by expanding access to neurologic care, advancing global neurology research, and offering high\u2011quality training and educational opportunities in resource\u2011limited settings.
