The Stroke Center was the first Joint Commission Certified Comprehensive Stroke Center in the Southeast and is a major referral center for interventional stroke treatments.<\/p>\n<h2>Program Description<\/h2>\n<p>The <a class=\"internal-link\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/neurology\/divisions\/stroke\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">UNC Hospitals Comprehensive Stroke Center<\/a> offers a one-year, ACGME-accredited fellowship with emphasis on acute stroke treatment and diagnosis\/prevention of stroke and TIA. Fellows will divide their clinical time between inpatient care in the UNC Medical Center (Neurosciences ICU, ISCU and 6NSH) and outpatient care in the UNC Stroke Clinic. Clinical research experience will include fellow-initiated studies and participation in a variety of acute stroke trials and stroke prevention trials.<\/p>\n<p>The <a class=\"internal-link\" title=\"\" href=\"\/neurology\/divisions\/stroke\/stroke-team-1\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">UNC Stroke Team<\/a> is comprised of members from many departments and disciplines, and the core neurology clinical staff includes five stroke faculty members, a stroke NP, a stroke nurse coordinator, an acute stroke team, and a clinical trials unit that enrolls in trials 24\/7. We require a personal statement of interests and career goals, a current curriculum vitae, and three letters of recommendation, which should include one letter from the program director of the applicant\u2019s neurology residency training program. State-art clinical and research imaging resources are available at the UNC Medical Center and at the UNC Biomedical Research Imaging Core. Translational research training and support is provided by the <span style=\"line-height: 22.88px;\">NC TraCS Institute, <\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.43em;\">UNC&#8217;s NIH-funded CTSA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>UNC is a joint Regional Coordinating Center with Duke for StrokeNet, a NIH-funded network of academic centers designed to advance acute stroke treatment, stroke prevention, and recovery and rehabilitation following a stroke. UNC neurocritical care fellows interested in careers in stroke research can apply for our additional one-year\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/neurology\/envision-research-fellowship\/\"><strong>StrokeNet Fellowship<\/strong><\/a>.
