\n

\"StrokeUNC Stroke Center<\/h3>\n

The UNC Medical Center has a strong track record of quality and excellence in stroke care and has maintained the Joint Commission Disease-Specific Certification as a Primary Stroke Center since its founding in 2004. In 2013, the UNC Medical Center became the first hospital in the Southeast to receive the Joint Commission Advanced Certification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center<\/a>, confirming UNC Medical Center\u2019s position as a national leader in stroke care.<\/p>\n

The UNC Comprehensive Stroke Center has received the American Heart Association\/American Stroke Association Get With The Guidelines<\/a> Gold Plus Achievement Award and is recognized in the American Heart Association\/American Stroke Association Target Stroke Elite Plus Honor Roll – the highest level possible.\u00a0 Hospitals receiving the Gold Plus award have maintained an aggressive goal of treating stroke patients with 85% or higher compliance in core standards of care as outlined by the American Heart Association\/American Stroke Association for 12 consecutive months and have demonstrated 75% compliance in seven out of ten additional stroke quality measures during the 12-month period.<\/p>\n

\n

\"NationalUNC Epilepsy Center<\/h3>\n

The UNC Epilepsy Center is designated as a level 4 center by National Association of Epilepsy Centers<\/a> (NAEC), which is the highest designation representing the most complex forms of diagnostic evaluations and treatment options. A level 4 center provides the more complex forms of intensive neurodiagnostic monitoring, as well as more extensive medical, neuropsychological, and psychosocial treatment. Level 4 centers also offer a complete evaluation for epilepsy surgery, including intracranial electrodes and a broad range of surgical procedures for epilepsy.<\/p>\n

\n

\"Parkinson'sMovement Disorders Center<\/h3>\n

The Movement Disorders Center at The University of North Carolina Hospitals is a designated National Parkinson Foundation Center of Excellence<\/a>. In 2004, the UNC School of Medicine and UNC Hospitals became the first medical center in North Carolina to join the ranks of only 43 National Parkinson’s Foundation (NPF) Centers of Excellence worldwide. Specially-marked NPF Centers of Excellence feature comprehensive care teams that meet every patient need and provide access to clinical trials and experimental therapies.<\/p>\n

\n

\"CureCurePSP Center of Care<\/h3>\n

The CurePSP organization<\/a> is dedicated to improving care and advancing research\u00a0for people diagnosed with the rare atypical parkinsonism disorders, progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), corticobasal syndrome (CBS), and multiple system atrophy (MSA).\u00a0The CurePSP Center of Care designation recognizes UNC as a premier\u00a0center that is committed to providing excellent care to\u00a0patients with these conditions. Additionally, it highlights our commitment to research and education\u00a0in these rare conditions.<\/p>\n

\n

\"\"Neurofibromatosis Comprehensive Clinic<\/h3>\n

The Neurofibromatosis Clinic Network (NFCN) is the first nationwide network in the US and Canada dedicated to improving clinical care for people living with NF. Established by the Children\u2019s Tumor Foundation (CTF) in 2007, the NFCN recognizes clinics that provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary care, promote patient and family education, and support participation in clinical research and the NF Registry. Today, the network includes more than 70 clinics across North America.<\/p>\n

The NF Clinic at the University of North Carolina Hospitals is recognized as an NF Comprehensive Center within the NFCN. This designation reflects the clinic\u2019s high patient volume, active engagement in NF research, and commitment to education. With deep expertise in all types of NF, the UNC clinic is dedicated to advancing care, research, and support for individuals and families affected by neurofibromatosis and schwannomatosis.<\/p>\n

\n

\"MuscularMuscular Dystrophy Association Clinic
\n(includes ALS and Myasthenia Gravis Clinics)<\/h3>\n

Muscular Dystrophy Association<\/a> (MDA) Care Centers offer families best-in-class, comprehensive care from a wide variety of health care specialists at one location on the same day. Centers provide early diagnosis, highly specialized care and access to promising clinical trials help ensure the best possible outcomes for individuals and families facing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle-debilitating diseases. MDA clinics utilize a multidisciplinary team approach, meaning individuals can see knowledgeable health care specialists from a variety of disciplines, all at one location.<\/p>\n

\n

\"LewyUNC Memory Disorders Program<\/h3>\n

UNC Neurology was named a LBDA Research Center of Excellence (RCOE) by the Lewy Body Dementia Association<\/a> (LBDA), the leading advocacy group dedicated to raising awareness and advancing research about Lewy body dementia (LBD). This collaboration features 24 preeminent academic medical research centers across the United States, coordinated by Mayo Clinic. The LBDA RCOE program provides a centralized, coordinated research resource, supporting an expanded effort in conducting clinical trials related to LBD while helping to provide expert clinical care for patients, families and caregivers.<\/p>\n

\"CMTACharcot-Marie-Tooth Clinic<\/h3>\n

A primary mission of the Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association<\/a> (CMTA) is to improve the quality of life for those with CMT. One means of accomplishing this directive is by sponsoring patient-centric, multi-disciplinary CMT clinics, staffed by some of the highest quality CMT clinicians and researchers in the world. Through these CMTA Centers of Excellence, patients affected by CMT can be assured of receiving comprehensive care by a team of CMT experts. UNC Neurology is proud to be one of only 24 CMTA’s national centers.<\/p>\n

\"Hereditary<\/a>Hereditary Neuropathy<\/h3>\n

UNC Neurology is proud to be a Hereditary Neuropathy Foundation Charcot-Marie-Tooth<\/a> Center of Excellence. Designated centers demonstrate excellence in clinical care and research, and collaborate with the Hereditary Neuropathy Foundation to serve as a Charcot-Marie-Tooth patient community hub for clinical care, community engagement, research, training and education.<\/p>\n

\"2021UNC Neurology is designated as a GBS | CIDP Foundation International Center of Excellence<\/a>\u00a0for the diagnosis and treatment of Guillain-Barre syndrome, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, and other inflammatory peripheral neuropathies.
