In 2013, the UNC Medical Center became the first hospital in the Southeast to receive the Joint Commission Advanced Certification as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jointcommission.org\/accreditation-and-certification\/certification\/certifications-by-setting\/hospital-certifications\/stroke-certification\/advanced-stroke\/comprehensive-stroke-center\/\">Comprehensive Stroke Center<\/a>, confirming UNC Medical Center\u2019s position as a national leader in stroke care.<\/p>\n<p>The UNC Comprehensive Stroke Center has received the American Heart Association\/American Stroke Association <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart.org\/en\/professional\/quality-improvement\/get-with-the-guidelines\/get-with-the-guidelines-stroke\">Get With The Guidelines<\/a> Gold Plus Achievement Award and is recognized in the American Heart Association\/American Stroke Association Target Stroke Elite Plus Honor Roll &#8211; the highest level possible.\u00a0 Hospitals receiving the Gold Plus award have maintained an aggressive goal of treating stroke patients with 85% or higher compliance in core standards of care as outlined by the American Heart Association\/American Stroke Association for 12 consecutive months and have demonstrated 75% compliance in seven out of ten additional stroke quality measures during the 12-month period.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2997\" src=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/neurology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/716\/2018\/05\/national-assoc-of-epilepsy-centers.jpeg\" alt=\"National Association of Epilepsy Centers\" width=\"268\" height=\"126\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/neurology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/716\/2018\/05\/national-assoc-of-epilepsy-centers.jpeg 268w, https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/neurology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/716\/2018\/05\/national-assoc-of-epilepsy-centers-150x71.jpeg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 268px) 100vw, 268px\" \/>UNC Epilepsy Center<\/h3>\n<p>The UNC Epilepsy Center is designated as a level 4 center by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.naec-epilepsy.org\/\">National Association of Epilepsy Centers<\/a> (NAEC), which is the highest designation representing the most complex forms of diagnostic evaluations and treatment options. A level 4 center provides the more complex forms of intensive neurodiagnostic monitoring, as well as more extensive medical, neuropsychological, and psychosocial treatment. In 2004, the UNC School of Medicine and UNC Hospitals became the first medical center in North Carolina to join the ranks of only 43 National Parkinson&#8217;s Foundation (NPF) Centers of Excellence worldwide. Established by the Children\u2019s Tumor Foundation (CTF) in 2007, the NFCN recognizes clinics that provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary care, promote patient and family education, and support participation in clinical research and the NF Registry. Today, the network includes more than 70 clinics across North America.<\/p>\n<p>The NF Clinic at the University of North Carolina Hospitals is recognized as an NF Comprehensive Center within the NFCN. This designation reflects the clinic\u2019s high patient volume, active engagement in NF research, and commitment to education. This collaboration features 24 preeminent academic medical research centers across the United States, coordinated by Mayo Clinic.
