During my studies I completed two years of undergraduate research investigating mechanisms of physiological trade-offs between reproduction and longevity. Also during that time I completed a four-year research and development internship at the medical device company Medtronic. Between graduating and starting at UNC in the fall of 2013 I worked as a lab technician at a local start up company in my hometown, and travelled as much as possible. Now I have happily found my home in the Neurobiology Curriculum and in the lab of Dr. Timothy Gershon.<\/p>\n<h3>Research<\/h3>\n<p>My research focuses on elucidating the cross-over between cellular mechanisms of cerebellar development and medulloblastoma (the most common malignant pediatric brain tumor) in hopes of revealing novel therapeutic targets for treatment.<\/p>\n<h3>Publications<\/h3>\n<h3><a class=\"external-link\" title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/?term=veleta+k\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"image-inline\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/neuroscience\/curriculum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/778\/2018\/07\/pubmed.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/h3>\n<h3>Activities\/Awards<\/h3>\n<p>Neurobiology Predoctoral Training Grant: 2014-2015<br \/>\nNeurobiology Peer Mentor: 2014-2015 Neurobiology Student Speaker Committee: 2014- 2015<br \/>\nScience Outreach: Brain Day, Durham Museum of Life and Sciences, 2013<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Biography I graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of North Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Cellular and Molecular Biology in 2012.
