{"id":3043,"date":"2014-02-19T16:37:34","date_gmt":"2014-02-19T21:37:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/neuroscience\/curriculum\/brain-awareness-week-is-approaching\/"},"modified":"2018-07-03T15:51:26","modified_gmt":"2018-07-03T19:51:26","slug":"brain-awareness-week-is-approaching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/neuroscience\/curriculum\/brain-awareness-week-is-approaching\/","title":{"rendered":"Brain Awareness Week is Approaching!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<h3><span style=\"line-height: 1.43em;\">The UNC Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies and Duke Institute for Brain Sciences are joining forces to sponsor Brain Awareness Week events at the NC Museum of Life + Science in Durham.<\/span><\/h3>\n<div>\n<div>What: \u201cElectric Muscles!\u201d interactive exhibit and &#8220;It&#8217;s Alive!&#8221; classes<\/div>\n<div>Where: <a class=\"external-link\" title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ncmls.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NC Museum of Life + Science in Durham<\/a><\/div>\n<div>When: Thursday, March 4-8, 9:45 \u2013 2:30 (various shifts)<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div><b>Electric Muscles! Station 1: How your brain \u201ctalks\u201d to muscles.<\/b> This station has brain specimens &#8211; including a real human brain! &#8211; and skull models that are props for talking to visitors about the brain and how it controls our muscles and behavior.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b>Electric Muscles! Station 2: Hear your muscles working! <\/b>This station will use portable EMG recorders hooked up to tablets or iPods to \u201chear\u201d and \u201csee\u201d your muscles working. Volunteers will work with groups of students to listen to action potentials from a cricket leg and identify the different parts of a sheep brain. There will be two 50-min class periods with a 40 min break in between. No prior experience necessary.
