He has accumulated over twenty years of ion channel experience in both academic and industry settings. For the past ten years his focus has been on small molecule ion channel drug discovery. In 2000 He earned his Ph.D. in Cell Biology and Physiology from the University of Pittsburgh where studied KCa3.1 channels as targets for the treatment of cystic fibrosis. Soon thereafter, he completed post-doctoral studies in neuroscience at that Vollum Institute at Oregon Health and Science University. In 2003, he joined Icagen, a biotech company focused on ion channel therapies, before joining Neusentis in 2011.
