Welcome to the Neurobiology Curriculum (NBIO) at UNC-Chapel Hill. It is my privilege to be associated with Dr. William Snider in the leadership of the Curriculum and to be primarily responsible for the training of NBIO students. More than 250 students have successfully completed PhD training in NBIO over the years. Our alumni have outstanding positions in schools of medicine, university basic science faculty, liberal arts colleges, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, regulatory agencies, consulting firms, and in scientific publishing. We offer training across the breadth of basic and clinical neuroscience from circuit formation in Drosophila to functional brain imaging in humans. We offer training in the latest techniques such as optogenetics and recording of ensemble neural activity. Our students are an energetic and diverse group from all over the US. Collegiality, collaboration and enhancement of personal career development are integral parts of all NBIO educational and research activities. There are numerous community activities including a weekly campus-wide neuroscience seminar, weekly research talks given by NBIO students, an annual symposium, and an annual student research day.
