Recipients of the $100,000, one-year grants are exploring critical areas of mental health, including opioid use disorder, depression in pregnant women, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and the effects of psychedelics on perception and consciousness.<\/p>\n<p>Recipients of the Distinguished Investigator Grants are full professors at research institutions in the United States and abroad. They were selected by a committee of the BBRF Scientific Council, which is comprised of 192 experts across disciplines in brain and behavior research who review grant applications and recommend the most promising ideas to fund.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bbrfoundation.org\/content\/bbrf-awards-1-million-2025-distinguished-investigator-grants-advance-mental-health-research\">Read full Press Release here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Recipients of the 2025 Distinguished Investigator Grants are as follows:<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-6908 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/neuroscience\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/782\/2022\/10\/Eva-Anton-e1665161302147-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/neuroscience\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/782\/2022\/10\/Eva-Anton-e1665161302147-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/neuroscience\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/782\/2022\/10\/Eva-Anton-e1665161302147-600x600.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>E. S. Anton, Ph.D.<\/strong>, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will investigate signaling molecules and processes (the \u201csignalome\u201d) engaged when the primary cilium of neurons is activated, including how it might be harnessed in the service of neural circuit modulation and correction.
