UNC Health is proud to recognize Carlos David, MD, Professor of Neurosurgery, on his appointment as the next President of the Society of University Neurosurgeons (SUN).
Dr. David has long been a respected leader in academic neurosurgery, known for his commitment to clinical excellence, resident education, and collaborative research. His work in complex cranial and cerebrovascular surgery has earned national recognition, and his dedication to mentoring trainees has helped shape the next generation of neurosurgeons at UNC and beyond.
Founded in 1974, the Society of University Neurosurgeons is a leading academic organization that brings together neurosurgeons from major university medical centers to advance innovation, share best practices, and promote education and scholarship in neurosurgery. Through scientific meetings, collaborative research, and support of trainee development, SUN plays a key role in shaping the future of academic neurosurgery.
As president of SUN, Dr. David will help guide the society’s efforts to foster collaboration among academic departments, support emerging leaders in the field, and promote the highest standards of patient care, research, and training. His selection for this role reflects both his professional achievements and the esteem in which he is held by colleagues nationwide.
