This ranking, from U.S. News and World Report, is best for gynecology in the state.


Once again, gynecology at UNC Hospitals is nationally ranked, this year climbing up to No. 11!

U.S. News and World Report announced Aug. 2 that UNC Hospitals has ranked No. 11 for Gynecology according its 2016-17 Best Hospitals rankings. Last year, gynecology ranked No. 25.

Gynecology’s score this year is 82.6/100. A hospital’s overall gynecology score is based on various data categories, including volume of high-risk patients, nurse staffing and patient survival. Gynecology at UNC Hospitals scored ‘best’ in survival and patient services, as well as in its use of advanced technologies. Other scores included ‘very high’ in number of patients, as well as recognition for Nurse Magnet status.

Gynecology was the top-ranked specialty for UNC Hospitals. Here are the complete rankings:

  • #16 in Urology
  • #17 in Ear, Nose and Throat
  • #21 in Nephrology
  • #23 in Diabetes and Endocrinology
  • #27 in Pulmonology

  • High performing in Neurology and Neurosurgery

The improvement in the hospitals’ rankings can be attributed to excellent, dedicated staff, as well as system-wide initiatives to improve overall patient experience and outcomes, as well as operational efficiency.
