The division known in recent years as UNC Pelvic Health has changed its name to the Division of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery.
Why the change?
Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery was the division’s original name, and the term urogynecology highlights gynecology as well as women’s health, while pelvic health is gender neutral. The name also highlights the division’s focus on surgical procedures.
Under the new name, the urogynecology and reconstructive surgery teams will continue to provide expertise in the evaluation and treatment of:
- Urinary incontinence, overactive bladder and voiding dysfunction
- Pelvic organ prolapse
- Fecal incontinence / accidental bowel leakage and bowel dysfunction
- Vesicovaginal fistulas and rectovaginal fistulas
- Recurrent urinary tract infections
